Zoomcar (self) drives into Chennai
India's first self-drive car rental company Zooms into Chennai with a wide range of car rental options.
- (1888PressRelease) May 07, 2015 - After its immense success in Bangalore, Pune and Delhi, Zoomcar, India's first self-drive car rental company, today announced the launch of their operations in Chennai. In line with its mission to provide customers with convenience, mobility and independence, Zoomcar is entering Chennai, with a wide fleet of cars ranging from Ford Figo and Ford Ecosport, all the way to Mahindra XUV.
Whether it's for a few quick errands across the city or for an exciting outstation trip, one can now rent and drive a car without having to bother about going through the hassles of 'owning' a car or 'booking a cab'.
On the occasion, Greg Moran, Co-founder, Zoomcar, flagged off the car from Cathedral Road.
He said, "We're extremely thrilled to launch Zoomcar's services in Chennai. A large part of the population in the city includes young professionals who expect convenient and independent transport options to move around the city and surrounding areas. We are confident that this will be a compelling alternative to 'car ownership' while providing the customer with a range of car options to suit one's occasion and mood. Our mobile focused, hyper locale setup will help revolutionize the way personal transportation is viewed in the city of Chennai in the years to come."
Zoomcar will provide a 30% discount launch offer on signing up while booking a car from the nearest location. Currently, there are 3 pick-up points across key areas in the city from where one can go and pick up the car that they have booked. This number is set to expand many times over in coming weeks.
Following Chennai, Zoomcar will also be entering Mumbai and Hyderabad in the coming months with an aim to be present in an additional 10 cities in the coming year. Zoomcar is also looking at tripling its fleet of cars from 1,000 to 3,000 and will be adding new vehicle options including self-drive luxury cars and automatic cars.
The current driver wage escalation in India suggests a decline of the chauffer-dominated model over the next few years. The compounded effect of decreasing vehicle costs and increasing labour costs means that the percentage cost increase of adding a driver to each trip is going up exponentially. Moreover, finding quality drivers is difficult and running background checks is a lengthy process. Hence, cost is not the only reason for this shift towards self-drive. A taste for privacy, safety and independence is growing, even among people who can easily afford a chauffeur. Change is on the prowl.
