New Haven-Meriden, CT (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2011 - Spectacular autumn foliage with a tree-top point of view is now on display at EMPOWER Leadership Sports in Middletown. In addition to the exciting Zip Line Canopy Tour experience, Empower gets into the dark and spooky holiday spirit with night-time Halloween rides including special light and sound effects that add a new dimension to the sensational thrill of soaring up to 75 feet in the air through breezy autumn leaves.

Empower offers extended evening hours on Wednesdays through Sundays starting on Friday, Oct. 7 th, through Sunday, Nov. 13th. Also open late in the evening on Columbus Day, Monday Oct. 10th.

Zip line flights are a perfect way for singles, couples, families, groups and friends of all ages over six years old to experience the stunning autumn colors in picturesque Connecticut woodlands. It's easy and fun! Nearly one half mile long, the canopy tour lasts well over an hour. Each rider flies through the trees on pullies and steel cable zip lines from 200 to 650 feet long, carried by a safe and comfortable harness.

Professional guides accompany all Zip Line riders, helping beginners to sail smoothly through an unforgettable wonderland of lofty seasonal sights. Joe DeRing, Empower's founder says "It's so much more than high-flying fun. Canopy touring is learning by doing," Joe explains. "We learn about ourselves when we face challenging situations. We learn that confidence building can be thrilling and rewarding, as well as fun, and to do it as a family or with a group of friends is unforgettable!"

DeRing is the force behind the Empower Leadership Sports & Adventure Center. He opened the Zip Lines as part of a teamwork training facility in 2009. An Army Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal recipient for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan, Joe used his background as a Special Forces Army Ranger combat Captain to create and develop many action-based programs to help individuals build self-confidence and help teams develop stronger relationships.
