Yonsei University partners with Editage to promote its research through video
A recent study by a group of Yonsei University researchers has revealed that television public service advertisement (PSA) campaigns can be effective in reducing suicides in South Korea.
- (1888PressRelease) May 23, 2017 - Authored by four researchers from Yonsei University and one from the National Chuncheon Hospital, the 2016 paper has been published in CRISIS, the journal of crisis intervention and suicide prevention. Using Editage's Video Summaries service, Yonsei University has released a short animated video that captures the key study findings and implications with engaging audio-visual elements. Yonsei University's effort at using the audio-visual format to maximize research visibility is one of the first of its kind in South Korea academia. Editage is proud to partner with one of South Korea's top private universities to support them in actively helping their researchers promote their work.
Expressing enthusiasm about the video project, Dr. In Han Song, Chair of the Department of Social Welfare, Director of the Center for Social Responsibility at Yonsei University, and first author of the paper, commented, "The results of our study point to a need to run longer TV PSA campaigns on a larger budget. We wanted a video that is easy to understand and helps us to not only talk to a broad audience about our research, but also create awareness about an important social issue. The video team at Editage has helped us achieve both goals." Basil D'Souza, Vice President, Academic and Publisher Relations, Editage, explained the collaboration, "A decade and a half of providing pre-publication support has made us trusted advisors to academics worldwide. We now want to help researchers maximize the reach and visibility of their published research. Video is a great way to create awareness about suicide prevention, which is a social issue globally."
The number of published research papers has increased exponentially in virtually every scientific discipline. With the pressure to be recognized increasing, researchers are going beyond conventional channels of research dissemination. Videos present an exciting medium to convey the crux of a scientific study to a wide audience comprising funders, policy-makers, administrators, and librarians. Editage is at the forefront of this movement in scholarly communications and has partnered with Yonsei University to help raise its international profile through strategic innovative research dissemination.
