Yashoda Hospitals Successfully Performs POEM Procedure on a 26-Year-Old Patient with Achalasia Cardia
Yashoda Hospitals, Hitec City, Hyderabad, successfully performed a Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) procedure on Mrs. Guru Lakshmi Vundela, a 26-year-old patient from Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, who was diagnosed with Type II Achalasia Cardia, a rare disorder affecting the esophagus and making swallowing difficult.

The patient was diagnosed with Type II Achalasia Cardia, a rare disorder that makes swallowing difficult due to the esophagus's inability to move food toward the stomach.
Mrs. Vundela had been experiencing dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) for over a year. After thorough evaluation, including an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGIE) and esophageal manometry, she was diagnosed with Achalasia Cardia and was admitted to Yashoda Hospitals for further treatment.
The POEM procedure was successfully performed, although a small rent in the mucosal area was identified post-procedure, which was promptly managed. Mrs. Vundela has recovered well and is now ready to be discharged in stable condition.
