Yashoda Hospitals Successfully Performs Complex Vascular Surgery on 67-Year-Old Patient
Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, successfully treated 67-year-old Mr. Balanarsajah Katam for severe leg pain and foot ulcer due to peripheral artery disease. - (1888PressRelease) October 23, 2024 - Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, has successfully completed a complex vascular procedure on Mr. Balanarsajah Katam, a 67-year-old patient suffering from severe left leg pain, swelling, and a foot ulcer, which was aggravated by a history of injury. The multidisciplinary team led by renowned vascular surgeon Dr. Prabakard, Senior Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Diabetic Foot Specialist at Yashoda Hospitals, performed a left CIA stenting, angioplasty of the common femoral artery (CFA), superficial femoral artery (SFA), and anterior tibial artery (ATA). The procedure, performed on 13th March 2024, was completed successfully and uneventfully.
Upon admission on 11th March 2024, Mr. Katam presented with left leg pain, swelling, and an ulcer on the foot, following an injury to his left great toe. Detailed diagnostics, including CT lower limb angiography, revealed multiple blockages in the arteries of both lower limbs, including a complete atherothrombotic occlusion of the left superficial femoral artery. The patient was diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (PAD) with associated complications.
Given the complexity of the condition, the medical team prescribed a detailed preoperative plan, including IV antibiotics, anticoagulants, and consultations with nephrology and general physicians for optimal management. Following the diagnosis, the patient underwent the successful vascular surgery, which included stenting and angioplasty to improve blood flow and alleviate the symptoms.
Dr. Prabhakar, the lead vascular surgeon, remarked, "This case was a classic example of severe peripheral artery disease compounded by diabetes and advanced age. With careful planning and precise intervention, we were able to restore blood flow and prevent the need for more drastic measures, such as amputation. Mr. Katam has responded well to treatment, and we are optimistic about his continued recovery."
Mr. Katam was discharged on 18th March 2024 in a stable condition, and his recovery continues under close medical supervision. The hospital team provided a comprehensive treatment plan, including medications to manage his diabetes and cardiovascular health, along with instructions for follow-up care.
