Xvand Technology To Donate Four Months Of Cloud Computing Services To Hurricane-affected Businesses
Free Technology Services Allows Affected Companies to Get Back To Work Without Having To Restart from 'Square One.
- Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) June 01, 2011 - With hurricane season officially beginning tomorrow (June 1), businesses along the Gulf Coast can't help but wonder what the next storm will bring. While comprehensive planning reduces the risk of damages, the harsh realities of storms of this magnitude can wreak havoc on even the most prepared organization. In an effort to help affected businesses begin the process of recovery and prevent companies from having to start from the ground up, Houston-based Xvand Technology will donate four months of its IsUtilityŽ service at no charge to commercially-oriented businesses affected by the 2011 Hurricane Season.
IsUtilityŽ, short for information systems as a utility, will assume the costs of managing and purchasing a company's IT infrastructure. IsUtilityŽ will offer to store the company's data and applications in its SAS-70 Type II center located 65 feet above sea level. The service will provide users with a local, personalized 24/7 helpdesk, and a business continuity plan moving forward.
IsUtilityŽ President and co-founder Victor Grinshtein, says that storing all company data in a central location gives companies the ability to access data from any Internet-connected location.
Businesses will need a basic workstation (monitor and a connection to the Internet) to access this service. Xvand representatives are available to assist with project planning and the transition to the IsUtilityŽ cloud computing system. Grinshtein says that companies are under no obligation to stay with this service after the four-month period.
Grinshtein also said that Xvand would not limit the IsUtilityŽ service to just Houston.
"Although we are based in Houston, we offer our service to any commercially-oriented business along the Gulf Coast. We've seen businesses that have been severely hurt by the hurricane and are slowly recovering. We are fortunate to have a secure system to protect businesses from any threat. We just want people to know that we are here to help them, and that we have successfully helped businesses recover in the past," Grinshtein said.
Xvand offered its services back in 2005 to a New Orleans law firm damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Xvand engineers went onsite and recovered servers that were submerged in the New Orleans floodwaters. Once Xvand put the company data on the IsUtilityŽ system, the law firm was able to quickly resume work within a few weeks of Katrina.
"It is devastating to see what happens on the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of hurricane," said Grinshtein. "Some businesses do not have time to properly prepare and protect their offices and systems. The least we can do is donate our services to help our fellow businesses get back on their feet."
According to the Gulf Coast Back to Business Act (2007), Congress finds that 43 percent of businesses that close following a natural disaster never reopen, and an additional 29 percent of businesses close down permanently within two years (Library of Congress 2009).
