  • (1888PressRelease) October 13, 2010 - The XIIth International Violin Competition City of Brescia will take place from 21 to 30 October 2010. The competition was founded by Mario Conter in 1979, is organized by Romano Romanini Foundation, and actually is under the artistic direction of Domenico Nordio.

    The selection aims to attract young artists from every corner of the globe and would provide a venue for discovering new and young talents.

    The contest is open to violinists of all nationality and for this edition will be received 64 violinists coming from 25 countries of the world: United States, Japan, Australia, China, South Korea, Russia and many other European countries.

    The competition will be at the presence of an audience and will consist in four rounds: eliminatory, semi-final and two final rounds, which will be held at San Barnaba Auditorium, Teatro Sociale and Santa Giulia Museum.

    At the second final round, the selected competitors will play with the Schio Academy Orchestra, conducted by Carlo Boccadoro, on 29 October 2010 at Teatro Sociale. The awards ceremony and the gala concert will take place on Saturday 30 October at Santa Giulia Museum. The Jury is composed of Italian and foreign prominent musicians, musicologists, critics and artists. Among the members there will be Suna Kan, Alexey Lundin, Mihaela Martin, Marco Rizzi, Dora Schwarzberg (winner of the first edition of this Competition), Kyoko Takezawa and Filippo Juvarra, artistic director of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto.

    The official prizes are: 12.000 euros and some concerts in Italy and Europe for the winner, for the second place 3.500 euros and for the third one 2.500 euros. Moreover, there will be other two special awards: the "Mikkeli Prize" and the Press Prize "Mario Conter". The "Mikkeli Prize" winner will be offered 2.000 euros and the possibility to play with the Mikkeli City Orchestra (Finland) and it will be awarded by a special jury, Domenico Nordio, Helinä Tepponen and Claudio Vergani. The second prize will be given by Roberto Codazzi, Fulvia Conter and Luigi Fertonani and it consists in the possibility for the winner to play in a concert in Brescia, during the 2012 music
