World's Largest Long Distance Canoe Race in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
On August 29 to September 1, 2014 the 43rd Queen Lili'uokalani Long Distance Canoe Races - the largest long distance canoe race in the world will be held in Kailua-Kona, Big Island.

Gathering paddlers from across the globe, the event features half day-long races organized by the Kai 'Opua Canoe Club, a member of the Big Island's Moku O Hawaii Outrigger Canoe Racing Association and one of the oldest outrigger canoe clubs in Hawaii.
The races begin Saturday at 7:30am and end at11:55am (HST), featuring six divisions. Race winners will be awarded at 3:30pm at the Kamakahonu Bay. At 6:30 pm, visitors may join the annual Torchlight Parade which will run through the Historic Kailua Village, from the Hale Halawai County Pavilion to the scenic Kailua Pier. Then, King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel will host a concert by QLCR on its Luau Grounds in the Courtyard by Marriott.
Sunday, meanwhile, will be marked by double hull canoe races for men and women, as well as one- and two-person races, single hull races for teens with three new divisions, and a Standup Paddleboard Race.
The Queen Lili'uokalani Race ends with the Ali'i Challenge, a 17.5 mile race for 12-member crews, featuring two triangle courses as well as a land portion with tasks that will require knowledge of Kailua-Kona and Kamakahonu history and culture.
