- Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2011 - The Woodshed Gallery is presenting the work of outstanding Franklin artist and inventor Dick Fotland. The solo exhibition of oil paintings starts Tuesday June 7 and continues through July 2, 2011.
A public reception for Dick Fotland will be held Saturday, June 11, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
Dick Fotland is known for his work in two areas. As an artist his paintings of romanticized landscapes and seascapes are often included in exhibitions of the Franklin Art Association and other art societies. As an inventor, technology bearing his mark are seen around the globe.
Art, however, is Dick Fotland's passion. This exhibition features over sixty paintings created in his Franklin MA studio and on the coast of Maine.
His paintings depict traditional subjects found in New England, like the coast, boats, ponds and rural scenes. But Fotland has chosen to filter each one through his imagination, presenting views which are smoothed-out and idealized.
His soft-focus approach to art is most surprising considering that Fotalnd is credited with creation of some extremely exacting imaging technologies. He is the principle inventor named on over 50 patents covering a wide range of imaging technologies. Among his patents are the electrostatic processes in the Olympus Optical desktop ion printer line - the first to operate at 300 dpi, and the SCI/United Airlines airline ticket printer.
Having left corporate life several years ago, Dick Fotland now heads a consultancy firm, Illuminaire Incorporated. He says, "I founded Illuminare with three goals in mind; provide consulting services to the imaging industry, develop new imaging concepts, and develop novel approaches to creating fine art."
This exhibition is part of a Woodshed Gallery program designed to let Metro-West residents view world-class art by their neighbors. The professional gallery setting has been compared to the best exhibition spaces in Boston.
