Woodbury University to Co-Host Free Special Olympics Events

  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 18, 2015 - Woodbury University, the City of Burbank and the Burbank Chamber of Commerce are going all out to show Special Olympics World Games athletes and coaches from Botswana and Zimbabwe a good time in the days before the L.A. 2015 Games begin on July 25, with a series of fun free pre-Olympic events open to the public.

    Among the scheduled activities open to the public:
    • The Flame of Hope™ Torch is scheduled to make an appearance at Burbank City Hall (275 E. Olive Ave.) at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22. The torch began its journey May 14 in Athens, Greece.

    • Celebratory Barbecue and Special Starlight Bowl Concert on Thursday, July 23. Welcome the two delegations and officials from across the greater Burbank community for an American-style barbecue from 4:15-5:30 p.m. outdoors on the Alumni Quad on the campus of Woodbury University. Dinner is followed by a concert celebration and dance at the Starlight Bowl (1249 Lockheed View Dr.). Gates open at 6 p.m., and the concert begins at 6:45, followed by dancing to the music of Captain Cardiac and the Coronaries.

    • Pep Rally/Athlete Send-Off: Join the athletes and coaches and the Burbank community for a Pep Rally and Athlete Send-Off both athletes and their host community will never forget. Gather at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, in Woodbury University's Alumni Quad and cheer our athlete friends to victory.
