The Women's Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate, celebrates the grand opening of its new office in Miami Lakes and continues its door-to-door outreach this month.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2014 - The Women's Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate is kicking off its 2014 outreach efforts in a big way! The non-profit officially opens its doors at its brand new headquarters at 14125 NW 80th Avenue in Miami Lakes with a grand opening celebration on Monday, February 10th from 4-6 p.m., followed by a community-wide canvassing effort that Saturday in Hialeah. The organization follows a grassroots approach to offer prevention and early detection for breast cancer and heart disease, the two largest causes of death among women.
"We've come a long way since our founding in 2006," said Andrea Ivory, founder of the group and winner of the 2009 Top Ten CNN Heroes Award. "We have served more than 62,000 households and saved thousands of lives. Our expanded offices will allow us to continue the work we've started right here in South Florida."
Ivory said that the non-profit is also currently undergoing third party evaluation to become an evidence-based model, which could change the way social service agencies conduct outreach for women's health initiatives.
"It's all about reaching more women, and giving them the information they need to make educated decisions about their own health. For those who need medical intervention, we are here for them," she said.
Ribbon Cutting
The official ribbon cutting and proclamation presentation by Miami Lakes Town Mayor Wayne Slaton will occur at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, February 10, followed by remarks by other Miami-Dade County officials. The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should RSVP to (305)-825-4081 or info ( @ ) flbreasthealth dot com dot
