Atlantic Canada's premiere wilderness resort achieves an Award of Excellence for its wine list in the August 31 issue of the world's most important wine magazine.
(1888PressRelease) July 27, 2009 - The results of the 2009 Wine Spectator magazine Awards of Excellence have placed Trout Point Lodge’s The Dining Room among 5 restaurants outside of Halifax receiving the coveted award. Nova Scotia has a total of 11 award winners for 2009, as announced in the annual awards issue dated August 31.
According to Wine Spectator: “Wine Spectator's Restaurant Wine List Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.” Winners can be searched at: www.winespectator.com/Wine/Dining/Restaurant_Awards/Restaurant_Search_Page/
“The Award of Excellence affirms the commitment we have made to our wine offerings over the past three years,” noted Managing Director Charles Leary, “building up the number of wine selections, increasing wines by the glass, and including Nova Scotia producers. This goes hand and hand with the general emphasis on great food & dining we have always had.”
Trout Point serves prix-fixe dinners centred around local seafood, and has received past praise from Food & Wine, En Route, and Harrowsmith Country Life. The Lodge’s cooking vacations have placed on numerous worldwide top 10 lists. Trout Point’s unique culinary tourism offerings also helped earn the wilderness resort its current position as a global finalist in the National Geographic Society’s Geotourism Challenge, with public voting open until August 12 at http://geotourism.changemakers.com. Random House published The Trout Point Lodge Cookbook in late 2004.
Trout Point currently has over 130 wine selections on its list. Wine Spectator noted the restaurant’s particular strength in French wines.
To qualify for an award, the list must present complete, accurate wine information. It must include vintages and appellations for all selections, including wines available by the glass. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, while the overall presentation and appearance of the list is also taken into consideration.
Trout Point provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner to Lodge guests and is open to the general public for dinner with advance reservations until the end of October.
