A Brief History
Following India’s Independence in 1947, Windlass Steelcrafts continued supplying to the British in Malaya and Singapore. In 1965 it executed its first order for the Indian Army, a relationship that continues today. In 1995, Windlass Steelcrafts acquired full ownership of the Atlanta Cutlery Corp. and Museum Replicas Ltd., renowned firms specializing in period clothing and weapons. Also, a textile branch R.S. Windlass & Sons was started, that offers historical, military and contemporary apparel to the commercial industry.
In 1998, Windlass Steelcrafts and Atlanta Cutlery Corp. were selected by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency to provide NCO sabers for the Marine Corps. The same year, the firm started manufacturing props for motion pictures and television such as swords, armor, shields and other such products. These props can be seen in popular television shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and HBO’s Rome and blockbuster movies such as Batman Begins and Gladiator. Over the years, Windlass Steelcrafts has also acquired official licenses for replicas of classics such as Gone with the Wind and more recent movies such as 300.
