Wind Wide (HK) Limited has welcomed the approval of a plan to develop offshore wind power generation by recently-elected Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos.
(1888PressRelease) November 25, 2022 - Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos’s recent decision to approve a plan that explores and develops the potential of offshore wind power has been warmly greeted by Hong Kong-based floating wind power generation pioneer, Wind Wide (HK) Limited.
The company which builds, deploys and provides full maintenance for its advanced Floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (FVAWTs) says it expects more and more countries to commit to exploring the potential of what, because of increasing instances of tropical cyclones owing to man-made climate change, has become an abundant power source.
“The Philippines is regularly struck by highly destructive tropical cyclones in which winds can reach over 250km per hour,” explained Wind Wide Limited’s Chief Operations Officer.
“Conventional horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWT) typically deployed both on land and at sea can’t operate safely in the face of such high wind speeds due to the excessive stress placed on the rotors. Wind Wide Limited’s FVAWTs do not suffer with this limitation,” he added.
The Philippines is a rapidly growing Southeast Asian economy which expects to have significant power needs in the coming decades much of which it wants to be provided by renewable energy sources such as wind as it seeks to reduce its reliance upon fossil fuels like oil and gas.
Wind Wide (HK) Limited is preparing to submit a proposal to the Philippines Department of Energy with a view to consulting on the direction the development will take.
