Willig, Williams & Davidson Attorney Matthew Slater Earns Workers' Compensation Law Specialty Certification
Pennsylvania Bar Association recognizes Philadelphia workers' compensation lawyer as authorized specialist by Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
- Philadelphia, PA-NJ (1888PressRelease) June 06, 2014 - Matthew W. Slater, an associate with Philadelphia labor, employment and workers' compensation firm Willig, Williams & Davidson, has been certified as a specialist in the practice of workers' compensation law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers' Compensation Law Section. Philadelphia is home to fewer than 100 certified workers' compensation lawyers - four of whom are Willig, Williams & Davidson attorneys.
In 2012, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court recognized the Pennsylvania Bar Association Workers' Compensation Law Section as a certifying organization in the area of workers' compensation law. To become certified, attorneys must demonstrate that at least half of their legal practice is in the specialty field of workers' compensation, that they have practiced in the field for more than five years and that they actively participate in mandatory Continuing Legal Education in workers' compensation law and related fields.
"Willig, Williams & Davidson is pleased to add Matt Slater to its pool of certified workers' compensation attorneys," said Managing Partner Deborah R. Willig. "We protect the rights of injured workers across Pennsylvania with a keen understanding of workers' compensation law, helping them receive the proper medical treatment and the financial benefits they deserve.
"And because of our firm's strong union-side labor and benefits practices, our workers' compensation attorneys are uniquely suited to understand the complex interplay between workers' compensation law and other employment rights, such as health care coverage, pension benefits, and public employee protective laws such as Act 534 and the Heart and Lung Act," Willig said.
Slater represents clients in workers' compensation proceedings before administrative judges, the state Workers' Compensation Appeal Board and the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. In addition to handling hearings, depositions and oral arguments on behalf of his clients, he counsels injured workers regarding the availability of benefits such as civil service, social security disability, private disability and workers' compensation benefits.
Slater joins fellow Willig, Williams & Davidson attorneys Michael G. Dryden, Marianne H. Saylor and Paul M. Della Franco, who were certified as workers' comp specialists in 2013.
