  • Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) March 21, 2012 - The board of trustees of William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that Drs. Carol Hiscoe and Wade Newhouse have been granted tenure and that Dr. Newhouse has been named associate professor. Hiscoe has taught in the university's English department since 1992 as an instructor, visiting assistant professor and associate professor. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from NC State University and a Ph.D. in literature from Duke University. Known for her commitment to students, Hiscoe has worked closely with many of them on research projects and presentations for the National Council on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). A recipient of the McCormick Distinguished Teaching Award twice (2001 and 2011), as well as the Alumnae Distinguished Service Award in 2006, Hiscoe has led the university in its accreditation reaffirmation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and serves as the chair of the Faculty Advancement Committee.

    Newhouse joined the faculty of the university's English department in 2006, after teaching at Bentley College and Boston University. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree from NC State, and a doctorate from Boston University. Newhouse was selected as First-Year Advisor of the Year in 2011. He is a member of the Curriculum Committee as well as a frequent performer in the university's theatre productions. The author of numerous scholarly articles, Newhouse is working on a book project that intertwines southern literary culture and film theory.

    The English department at William Peace University produces the Prism, the university's literary magazine, which features student contributions.
