William Peace University To Show New Voices Documentary Certain Proof: A Question of Worth Oct. 15
Four-Year Baccalaureate University To Host Local Foundation's Movie On Discovering How To Unleash The Potential Of Children With Communications Challenges.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) October 09, 2012 - William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that it will host a special viewing of Certain Proof: A Question of Worth, an award-winning documentary produced by Footpath Pictures in cooperation with the local New Voices Foundation, at the Browne-McPherson Performing Arts Center in Kenan Hall Monday, Oct. 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The documentary was written, directed and produced in its entirety in Wake County by filmmakers Ray and Susan Ellis. It portrays how difficult but necessary it is for families and teachers to find ways to unleash the potential of children who cannot speak or use their hands to write by following the struggles of three children with cerebral palsy in public schools over the course of two and a half years. This documentary outlines the goal of the New Voices Foundation, which works to improve educational opportunities for children with severe communication and mobility disabilities. Attending the showing will be Don Stedman, Ph.D., co-founder and president of the New Voices Foundation.
Following the showing, there will be a book signing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring Dr. Sharon Draper, a two-time Coretta Scott King award-winning children's author. Draper will discuss and sign copies of her recent novel, Out of My Mind, which chronicles the story of a New Voices-like child, 11-year-old Melody, who is unable to speak or walk. The novel chronicles Melody's frustrations and successes as she is given the opportunity to communicate.
William Peace University will be hosting students from its education department as well as those from the same programs at Meredith College and NC State University for the event. The public is invited to attend this free event, but reservations for the showing are required.
