William Peace University Student Delegation From Qatar Visits Islamic Association Of Raleigh
Four-Year Baccalaureate University Hosting 10 Students From The Middle East Who Meet Local Group Of Interest For Luncheon, Presentation.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) February 14, 2012 - William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that a visiting delegation of 10 female students ages 19-25 from Qatar University in Doha, Qatar, who are spending a week at the university, attended a luncheon, a midday prayer, and a presentation on being Islam in America at the Islamic Association of Raleigh's office at 808 Atwater St. on Feb. 1 as part of outreach efforts to the guests. The students, all natives of the Middle East who are participating in William Peace University's Off-Campus Educational Opportunities and Student Exchange program, are learning about living in Raleigh and working in Wake County under the supervision of two chaperones and the assistance of university staff members. The delegation arrived on Jan. 31 and departed on Feb. 6.
This is the fifth year that the two universities have conducted their student exchange programs, which have been cited for their excellence in what they offer participants. Qatar University has won the International Education 2012 Best Practice Award for its student exchange program with William Peace University. The award recognizes prominent higher education and student affairs leaders, programs, and initiatives for contributions and impact on inter-cultural and educational exchanges. Al Jazzi Hamad Fetais leads Qatar University's programs.

- Other activities in which the delegation participated included a tour of the downtown ABC11 TV studios and a visit to the office of Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, who met with the students and discussed her work leading the city as well as running her own successful business, MedPro Rx.
- The students attended several classes at William Peace University, including Social Media and Cultural Anthropology and a poetry workshop, and they made a presentation to the student body as well.
