- (1888PressRelease) July 07, 2010 - Wigwams Holidays has just arrived at the Scottish Borders, teaming up with Glentress Forest Lodges to give you Glentress Wigwams. Set in beautiful Peeblesshire, Glentress is home to the largest mountain bike centre in the UK, part of the forestry commissions internationally recognised 7stanes mountain bike network. Nestled on the banks of the river Tweed, Glentress comprises an impressive seven and a half thousand acres of forest including twenty five miles of beautiful forest walks/orienteering and fifty miles of purpose built mountain bike tracks catering from beginners blue runs to more advanced black runs for the daredevils amongst us.
The proprietor of Glentress Wigwams, Mr Ian Ritchie, first encountered our unique all timber wigwams® in March 2003 after reading an article in the "Scottish Farmer". Born and bred on his small borders sheep farm Ian and his wife Jill already ran a kennels and livery, but felt that they needed further diversification. "I just knew as soon as I heard about them that these were exactly what I was looking for" says Mr Ritchie.
Six years later his dream has finally become a reality with the delivery of the first ten of his twenty four all new wooden wigwams® in August. Mr Ritchie found working with the creators of wigwams®, All Round Buildings, a pleasure, "they were particularly helpful and attentive to detail and delivered on price and on schedule …..Wigwam Holidays offered valuable assistance with all sorts of practical details including help drawing up our business plan and marketing".
The Glentress wigwams® feature innovative additions to an already highly popular wigwam® design. More bend in the frame gives even more space for increased insulation levels at an approximate four inches as standard throughout; the perfect feature for an even more comfortable night's sleep. The Glentress wigwams® also feature a more generous over-hang at the front of the cabins to offer a more sheltered porch just incase the typical rainy Scottish weather sets in! These light, spacious and cosy wigwams® will revolutionise the mountain bike experience for all visitors from beginners to the more experienced.
Mountain bike enthusiast of all levels will be delighted to know that the Glentress wigwam® site has a range of facilities to cater specifically for mountain bikers including its purpose built cleaning and storage area where all equipment can be washed and most importantly, stored securely. Don't worry if you find at the end of a days cycling you are prone to being caked in mud as there is also a laundry facility on site as well as a supply of logs for a camp fire and fuel for barbeques.
Even if you're not a mountain bike fanatic, Glentress wigwams® has something for everyone. Situated close to the beautiful market towns of Innerleithen and Peebles, it boasts a wealth of visitor attractions including the historic Traquair House and Dawyck Botanic Garden. As well as this there are local golfing areas with three very popular golf courses only a short distance away including the Cardrona Championship Golf Course. The river Tweed is within walking distance which offers beautiful scenery as well as trout and salmon fishing. Being only thirty minutes drive from Scotland's inspiring capital, Edinburgh, this is yet another jewel in the wigwam® crown.
