Whole Foods Market Coming to Irvine
Whole Foods Market® and the Irvine Company announced today that the companies have signed a lease to bring the first Whole Foods Market to Irvine, Calif.
- Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) August 01, 2014 - The organic and natural grocer will occupy approximately 40,000 square feet of retail space at Los Olivos Marketplace, a specialty shopping center just off the 405 freeway at Irvine Center Drive in Irvine Spectrum.
The store, set to open in spring 2016, will be Whole Foods Market's second location on The Irvine Ranch, joining Whole Foods Market's Fashion Island store, which opened in 2012. The new location will be Whole Foods Market's sixth store in Orange County.
"We have long looked at bringing a Whole Foods Market to Irvine and have found a prime location in Los Olivos Marketplace," said Patrick Bradley, president, Whole Foods Market Southern Pacific Region. "The Irvine Spectrum is evolving into one of Southern California's most dynamic downtowns, and we are excited to bring Whole Foods Market's unique organic and natural offerings to those who live and work there. We are pleased to expand our relationship with the Irvine Company and look forward to our upcoming partnerships with the area's residents and businesses."
Los Olivos Marketplace
Los Olivos Marketplace is a 120,000-square-foot specialty shopping center. Construction is set to begin this summer and finish in late 2015. Along with Whole Foods Market, the center will include casual dining, shops and services to meet the daily and weekly needs of Irvine Spectrum residents, employees and visitors.
The new center is part of Irvine Spectrum, a 5,000-acre business, residential and shopping village master planned by the Irvine Company. A diverse and growing number of people are choosing to live in Irvine Spectrum with its exciting day and night atmosphere and extensive jobs, housing, parks and trails - all within walking distance. More than 10,000 people live within three miles of Los Olivos Marketplace, with about 40% of those residents also working in Irvine Spectrum.
"Irvine Company is proud to bring Whole Foods Market to Irvine," said Fred Collings, senior vice president of leasing for Irvine Company Retail Properties, which operates nearly 9 million square feet of retail in California. "The addition of a grocery store - particularly a Whole Foods Market - marks a major evolution in Irvine Spectrum as a place to live, work, shop and play. This store will provide everyday convenience while enhancing the fun and excitement of Irvine Spectrum, where decades of planning and retail experience have really created the ultimate California experience."
Emerging Downtown
The addition of Whole Foods Market to Los Olivos Marketplace is one of many exciting changes taking place in Irvine Spectrum.
At Irvine Spectrum Center, a world-class, open-air regional shopping center that draws nearly 17 million visitors a year, new restaurants, shopping and entertainment are building on a vibrant downtown atmosphere.
In July, an all-new Improv Comedy Club featuring Umami Burger opened with some of the biggest names in stand-up comedy. At 16,000 square feet, the new Irvine Improv is one of the largest comedy clubs in the country and the first to include an Umami Burger.
Home to more than 3,500 companies, Irvine Spectrum also is seeing the addition of a 21-story iconic office workplace to provide additional employment opportunities near housing, shopping, dining, entertainment and transportation. Set for completion in 2016, 200 Spectrum Center Drive will be a high-visibility workplace that helps companies attract employees and keep them engaged with all that Irvine Spectrum has to offer.
