Welbeck Group gets behind London Scottish Championship success
Welbeck Group celebrate London Scottish's recent promotion to the English Championship.
- (1888PressRelease) May 26, 2011 - Welbeck Group, the leading wealth management and financial services company - and major sponsor of London Scottish - is celebrating the team's recent promotion to the English Championship.
On Saturday 7 May, London Scottish beat Barking 17-13 to secure the team's rise to the top league. The match ranks as one of the most important games in the team's history, which in 1999, saw the club forced into administration and demoted 9 leagues. Undaunted, the club fought its way back to National League 1 and the cusp of a new season in the Championship.
"It's been a long road since Welbeck Group became involved with London Scottish in 2007," said Managing Partner of Welbeck and Director of London Scottish. "The board, coaching staff, players and supporters are elated about the prospect of playing Championship rugby. Welbeck is all about success. So it's great to support a club that's achieved both in the past 5 years."
Three ex-London Scottish players, who are now partners at Welbeck Group, joined the chorus of praise. "I joined the team in 2003 when they were in London Division 2," said Jim Kelly. "It's great to see them playing at the top of their game." Iain Fullarton, who played last year for London Scottish in second row, agreed: "This is a massive boost for the club. The Championship is physically challenging but I'm sure the team will do well." Ex-back row, Toby Walker, added: "It's great to see my mates, not just holding their own in London, but taking it to a national level."
