Wealth Manager, Financial Advisor and President of Investor Solutions, Frank Armstrong Discusses Why Now is the Time to Buy Stocks
Financial expert and Investor Solutions' president Frank Armstrong recommends investors take advantage of the current market upheaval to buy stocks while they are on a discount.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) August 27, 2011 - Wealth manager, financial advisor and Investor Solutions' president Frank Armstrong recommends investors use the current market upheaval as a time to buy stocks while they are on a discount, rather than fleeing the market.
Armstrong likens the rationale to when people crowd a store for a big sale. Although they may not necessarily need the items on sale, people are inevitably drawn to discounts and have no issue buying and stocking the items away. Unfortunately many investors don't follow this line of thinking when it comes to the stock market, despite the fact that stocks are something that can be used for an investor's entire life. Too often, investors come late to the party, buy stocks while they are high, and then bail when the market turns south, selling their stocks at a low and leading them to financial distress.
Armstrong points out that while the stock market gets abandoned during tough financial times, the U.S. Treasury Bond market is currently at an all time high, despite the fact that yields are at an all time low. He says that the prospects for any reasonable return on Treasuries is close to zero and the downside is enormous because a rise in interest rates will devastate bond values. Yet investors can't seem to get enough of them. On the other hand, stocks are priced at historically very attractive prices and the upside for long term investors is compelling.
"If you are a 401(k) plan participant (or accumulating for any other reason) with more than a couple of years to go, you should be doing the happy dance instead of fretting about today's decreased account value," says financial advisor and wealth manager Armstrong. "Today's prices give you an opportunity to scoop up stocks at really good prices. And, you should hope prices stay down for a good long while so you can again buy more later."
Investors who are already in retirement and have adequate safe assets set aside for their income needs for several years in advance may want to consider rebalancing, but at the very least they shouldn't fret about the temporary decrease in stock prices. It should give investors some comfort that EVERY decline in stock prices has ALWAYS been followed by a recovery and new highs. The key for retirees is having safe assets to ride out the temporary market declines.
