We School and TERI engages students to promote agribusiness
We School in collaboration with TERI hosted a competition on "AgriBusiness Plan" in an effort to educate Gen X about the career prospects in agribusiness and leverage the economic growth of the state through innovative agribusiness plans.
- (1888PressRelease) March 03, 2011 - Mumbai -- In an effort to educate Gen X about the career prospects in agribusiness and leverage the economic growth of the state through innovative agribusiness plans, We School in collaboration with TERI hosted competition on "AgriBusiness Plan" on March 2, 2011. The event also observed launch of website on Krishi Dhan-2011.
The competition hosted by We School and TERI observed participants from renowned B-schools such as We School, Garware Institute of Management, MANAGE, Pune based MIT School of Business, NITIE, and SPJIMR presenting their plans on agribusiness. 'MANAGE' became the winning team by bagging the first prize in agribusiness plans competition. The students were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 at the hands of Shri Chhagan Bhujbal, Minister of Public Works and Tourism, Maharashtra who was also the Chief Guest for the event.
The program was hosted by Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director of We School and Dr. Anjali Parasnis, Head of TERI. The program was an animated discussion on the same in an open forum whereby the speakers put forward their views on various issues pertaining to Agribusiness.
Addressing a gathering of students and other dignitaries, Shri Chhagan Bhujbal Minister of Public Works and Tourism, state of Maharashtra said, "Although agriculture has played a major role in the economic growth of the country, but the investments on agriculture has been the minimal as against other sectors. With unbalanced use of fertilizers and other resources, agricultural growth has always observed a down-turn. The initiatives undertaken by We School and TERI will prove to be a boon to the agricultural sector."
Elaborating about the program Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director of We School said, "The objective was to create awareness in the minds of students for opting career in Agribusiness. Most intellectuals prefer white collared jobs and it is this segment of students that needs to be addressed for a career options in Agribusiness sector."
The event projected agribusiness as one of the paying career options, as it prompted the youth to consider it as another viable option for profession. During the presentation students showcased their innovative ideas on agribusiness, about increasing the viability of agriculture as a business, financial planning to implement agriculture plans, raising funds for agri-business and many more.
The competition was judged by prominent corporates from the Agriculture sector such as Mr. Kiran Kurundkar, MD, MTDC, Executive Director, NABARD, Mr. Sachin Khandelwal, Senior General Manager, ICICI Bank, Mr. Sarita Bahl, Vice President (CSO), MCX India. About Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research:--
Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, runs a part time program in Agribusiness (PGPABM). The program is of 11 month duration and grooms students or an expanding job market in this field. The course focuses equipping students with a holistic approach from seed to sale, establish close linkages between 'farm and firm' and promoting Agribusiness. Graduates from agri allied subjects, Biology with Botany, Biotech Food Tech. and working personnel from agri- corporates are trained in this program.
