Wayne Caldwell of Premier Financial Group Makes Lifesaving - and Personal - Gift
Caldwell Donates Electrocardiogram Monitors to College of the Redwoods EMT Training Program.
- (1888PressRelease) May 06, 2017 - Eureka, CA: Wayne Caldwell, CFP®, Premier Financial Group's former President and current Chairman of the Board, has donated $5,000 to the North Coast Paramedic Program at the College of the Redwoods to purchase two electrocardiogram (ECG) monitors. These monitors represent the latest in lifesaving technology and are used to provide hands-on experience and practice that improves EMT students' confidence and proficiency.
Though Wayne Caldwell and Premier Financial Group have long been committed to giving back to the community - through donations to St. Joseph Hospital, the Eureka Symphony, annual financial literacy scholarships, and support for many local non-profits - the donation to the North Coast Paramedic Program at College of the Redwoods had a very personal catalyst. In early 2016, Wayne Caldwell experienced a serious heart event that required intervention. The responding Humboldt County paramedic, Kelly Wilson, used advanced ECG 12 Lead monitors to diagnose, treat, and inform the cardiologist, St. Joseph's ER, and cath lab before leaving Caldwell's home. The monitors also transmitted vital information while en route to St. Joseph Hospital, all resulting in an almost-perfect outcome.
After a very successful recovery, Caldwell reached out to Wilson to express his gratitude and extend an offer of support to the Paramedic Program. Wilson, the program's primary instructor, noted that she would like to replace outdated cardiac monitors with the same, updated equipment that was used to save Caldwell's life. After a discussion with College of the Redwoods' program Director Douglas Boileau, Caldwell provided a $5,000 donation to purchase two new ECG 12 Lead monitors, just in time for the entering paramedic class to utilize.
Wilson noted that the new monitors represent an "exponential upgrade" in training for EMT students at North Coast Paramedic Program; their enhanced expertise benefits the public, as well. Caldwell stated, "My and Premier's donative interest has always been to help create long-term solutions. The combination of St. Joseph's Cardiac Cath Lab, paramedic/EMT training on how to coordinate and work with the Cath Lab, and now having current ECG monitors to train new EMT students seems like a strong, winning combination."
