Waste King raises its own recycling rate
The specialist collections, clearance and recycling company, Waste King, has instituted a new system within its warehouse operations at its Hemel Hempstead headquarters which has further increased its impressive recycling rate.
- (1888PressRelease) September 07, 2011 - According to Waste King's managing director, Glenn Currie, the company used to recycle some 87 per cent of all waste materials which its operatives collected from customers and brought back to its warehouse. With the new system in place, that recycle rate has risen to 89 per cent.
"We guarantee to recycle at least 75 per cent of everything we collect," said Currie, "so we were pleased to achieve a recycle rate which was consistently some 12 per cent above that claim. We're even more delighted to be able to improve on that record - and so keep more items away from landfill sites and help our environment to become 'greener'.
On one recent contract - collecting some 45 tonnes of waste from 'millionaires' Bishops Avenue in London N2 - Waste King's recycling rate was an impressive 94 per cent.
"It's Waste King's policy to recycle or re-use any of the waste products we collect, wherever this is possible," explained Currie's fellow director, Andy Cattigan. "We believe that this is an environmentally friendly and responsible way to behave."
Waste King provides a wide range of waste collection and recycling services for both domestic and commercial clients including house clearances, office clearance, shop refurbishments, general rubbish removal, garden & garage clearance, wait & load and skip hire, as well as services to companies in the fields of property management and maintenance; interior design; specialist renovation, and general construction.
Its recycling and waste collection services include waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) collections and site waste management plans (SWMP). The company also offers confidential document destruction.
Earlier this year, Waste King received two awards for its environmentally friendly policies and business strategy.
In June, it was named as a Green Apple Award winner in the national campaign to find Britain's greenest companies.
Waste King was also awarded the Silver Star by the National Recycling Stars Scheme. The award was made in recognition of the company's commitment to increasing the amount of waste the company recycles and to improving the environmental awareness of their staff.
Waste King was judged on its recycling achievements according to a range of criteria which are designed to assess not only an organisation's percentage of waste recycled but also the overall commitment and engagement of its staff in implementing environmental initiatives.
