Washington University In St. Louis Creates LabStats Mobile App For Students
Washington University in St. Louis uses LabStats data to create a custom mobile app for students to find open computers across campus.
- (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2010 - Brian Marston of Washington University in St. Louis has created a custom page for mobile access for students to find open computers via data collected by LabStats software. LabStats tracks computer usage for large networked I.T. environments by providing lab managers with information on who uses their computers when, where, and how. LabStats also provides students with information on what computers are available for use and which are occupied across campus. Marston's custom LabStats page allows students to see how many computers are open in each computer lab at the university.
Marston created the page by incorporating data collected by LabStats into Washington University in St. Louis's mobile site. The live data was made easily accessible via Javascript, and a LabStats link is made available from their public site and staff intranet.
The page is an addition to the Library Anywhere application, which also includes a map of the library locations across campus, a list of important library phone numbers, and a chat feature for quick questions to a librarian. The Library Anywhere application can be customized per school, as Washington University in St. Louis did by adding LabStats.
Computer Lab Solutions anticipates releasing a how-to guide for other schools interested in creating custom LabStats pages for their use of the Library Anywhere application. They are also excitedly creating an independent LabStats mobile application for universities everywhere employing LabStats.
Washing University in St. Louis's application can be accessed at http://library.wustl.edu/m/#_home.
