Washington: Portrait of a City - The University of the District of Columbia Hosts Exhibition and Book Signing with photographer Steve Gottlieb
Photographer Steve Gottieb returns to Washington, DC for an opening reception, book-signing, gallery talk and exhibition in celebration of revised edition of his book Washington: Portrait of a City (Taylor Trade Publishers).
- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) November 03, 2010 - The University of the District of Columbia is proud to host an exhibition of images from Steve Gottlieb's new book, Washington: Portrait of a City (Taylor Trade Publishers, ISBN: 978-1-58979-574-7, 144 pages, $19.95, paperback). First published 25 years ago, the coffee-table book features new work that celebrates his uniquely personal view of the nation's capital-photographs described by Popular Photography as "cityscapes that…evade every cliché."
The exhibition will run from November 9 through December 17 in the University's Learning Resources Division (Building 41, level A) on the main campus at 4200 Connecticut Ave., NW. It will open with a reception, gallery talk, book signing and silent auction, the proceeds of which will be donated to the UDC Foundation. The kick-off event will take place on Tues., November 9 at 6:30 p.m.
Formerly a lawyer and senior corporate manager in Washington, DC, Gottlieb turned a love for photography into a career, working for a wide range of well-known commercial and editorial clients. He has also produced six widely acclaimed photo collections, one of which, Abandoned America, was selected as Gift Book of the Year by USA Today and People Magazine. He is the founder of Horizon Photography Workshops that American Photo Magazine has named "One of the Twelve Outstanding Travel Photography Workshops in the United States." Melding insights gained from his two careers-legal/corporate and photography-Gottlieb has developed a process he calls VisionMining, which applies photography concepts and approaches to promote change and innovation in organizations.
Gottlieb's father, William, was the creator of some of the most iconic and widely reproduced
images in all of jazz. Earlier this year the University's JAZZAlive series celebrated the life and work of William Gottlieb at a JAZZforum event. Referring to his connection to UDC, Gottlieb said, "I can't think of a better place for my exhibition. It's an added bonus to be able to give back to a place that has been so supportive of my father's work."
