Walters Group Supports American Cancer Society's Relay for Life 2012 in Manahawkin

Annual Fund-raising Event Benefits Survivors; Raises Money for Research. End Quote

Monmouth-Ocean, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 09, 2012 - Walters Group employees are teaming up for the 12th annual Relay for Life weekend-long event at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin. The opening ceremony is slated for Friday, June 1, at 7 p.m.

Walters' employees and their families will be participating in the Southern Ocean County Relay for Life, raising money in the walk to fund cancer research. The overnight event honors survivors as well as those who have lost their battle to cancer. Serving as team captain, Terri Morelli, warranty administrator for Walters Homes, expects about 10 people to join the team this year, including Walters Group Partners Ed Walters, Jr. and Greg Walters.

Supporters can make donations to the Walters relay team either by purchasing a track sign for the night of the event; making an online donation at http://main.acsevents.org/goto/waltershomes2012 or sending checks or money orders made out to the American Cancer Society and mailed to the Walters Group, Attention: Terri Morelli, 500 Barnegat Blvd. North, Building #100, Barnegat, NJ 08005 no later than May 18.

"Walters Group employees are proactive in their commitment to this cause by communicating to our vendors, contractors, business associates, residents, homeowners, family and friends about our mission to celebrate, remember and fight back," said Morelli.

While every year the Relay event incorporates different themes, certain traditions remain the same, such as empowering participants to "Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back." During the Relay, teams set up tents and try to keep at least one person walking or running on the track at all times. Each Relay for Life invites survivors to attend a reception and help officially kick off the event by walking in the "survivor victory lap." At nightfall, luminaria candles are put in bags and placed around the track as a glowing tribute to survivors or in memory of loved ones who were lost to cancer.

Since 2004, Walters' employees have been active participants in the fundraiser. Last year, the team raised over $8,000. The American Cancer Society began Relay for Life in 1985, and each year more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States along with additional communities in 20 other counties take part in the event, according to the organization's web site.

"Relay for Life is an important community fundraiser, and we see it as an opportunity to get involved and show our support," said Ed Walters, Jr., founder and partner. "We're proud to do our part in the fight against cancer."
