Wallix buttresses security-software Admin Bastion with WAB 3.0
Wallix, a European distributor of computer-security software, has announced the launch of version 3.0 of the Wallix Admin Bastion (WAB), its security solution for information systems.
- (1888PressRelease) November 17, 2011 - WAB 3.0 allows access to a company's information systems and equipment to be controlled, and use of this equipment by external service providers or by internal users to be recorded. WAB 3.0 enables companies to conform to the highest of standards, whilst observing the regulations that are in force.
Jean-Noël de Galzain, CEO of Wallix, says, "Our new version extends the usage of the WAB and better takes advantage of the traces of user activity, which it records in a demanding environment. The WAB can now be used by the IT security manager to control the use of applications that are accessible via the internet. With a reinforced technical structure, WAB 3.0 is capable of increasing its workload when faced with an increased number of users."

WAB 3.0 supports HTTP and HTTPS (the latter is employed for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems), which means that the WAB can be used with all critical equipment in the information system. This new functionality enables the WAB administrators to control and trace the access to web interfaces of equipment administration or applications, and to record the HTML pages visited during the connections. Thanks to that, it is possible to follow the connections around the applications using a web interface directly, without having to install a specific piece of software to trace them.
The management of equipment passwords allows for the set-up of an effective security policy by separating user passwords and equipment passwords. WAB 3.0 allows for the management of all passwords, whether those of users or those of items of equipment. This is achieved thanks to functionalities that include the automatic changing of passwords, or the fixing of a minimum level of complexity within a password, such as the inclusion of special characters. It is also possible to configure the frequency of the password change in order to respond better to the regulatory requirements relating to passwords of critical accounts.
WAB 3.0 records user sessions in order to reproduce them in video format. With the increase of the recordings of user sessions, it was necessary to assist the operation of the security software at the same time as providing information on user activity -for example, what applications were open at what time.
WAB 3.0 is capable of detecting the active windows of applications which are run during a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or Virtual Network Computing (VNC) session. This information, which is classed by date and time, helps the operation of recordings thanks to the data featured in the title of the window - for example, the name of the application and other information that depends on the application, such as the name of the open file or the directory consulted.
This functionality is made possible thanks to the integration of an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology developed in conjunction with the teams of the Laboratoire de Recherche et Développement (LRDE) set up by EPITA, the Paris-based school of informatics and one of France's top universities for computing and information technology.
WAB 3.0 has a new structure that permits the alliance of high availability and load management by distributing workloads between numerous WABs. This new characteristic allows for both a large workload increase as well as a more relaxed management of the development of inter-connected servers. Quite simply, it is sufficient to add a WAB appliance to a pre-existing cluster in order to increase the management capacity in terms of simultaneous connections between the components of the information system.
With the arrival of WAB 3.0, Wallix extends its software range by introducing machines destined for businesses with a large information system. The WAB 800, WAB 1000 and the WAB 2000 are constructed around XEON dual-processor machines with six or 10 cores. The WAB 100, 200, 400 and 600 are extended equally in new ES (a computer operating system) versions, offering increased-storage capacities. WAB 100 and WAB 200 have a capacity of 6 To, while WAB 400 and WAB 600 have a capacity of 14 To. These new models are equally available with a four-hour on-site support response as standard, and an optional two-hour response.
