Walk MS Comes to Virginia's Rural Northern Neck
Lancaster County resident Teri George's dream of bringing Walk MS to Kilmarnock, Virginia will become a reality this April 20th.
- Richmond-Petersburg, VA (1888PressRelease) April 10, 2013 - Kilmarnock-resident Teri George has worked hard over the past four years to bring Walk MS to the Northern Neck community of Virginia. This year, George's dream is finally becoming a reality: Walk MS, a fundraising event that helps raise money and awareness for multiple sclerosis, will take place in Kilmarnock, Virginia on Saturday, April 20th. Registration opens at 9:00 AM and the walk starts at 10:00 AM. The event kicks off at the Grace Episcopal Church on 303 S. Main Street in Kilmarnock.
"We here in Lancaster County, Virginia have a good number of people living with MS," says Teri George, who walked for several years with the Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society before taking on the task to start a walk in Kilmarnock. "Unfortunately, because it is a small area, local resources, medical knowledge and awareness have been severely limited with regard to MS."
Teri strives to bring programs to the Northern Neck's rural community to help those living with MS, including two support groups slated to start in May. With Walk MS: Kilmarnock on April 20th, Teri and the Central Virginia Chapter of the National MS Society all hope to raise community awareness and let those community members living with this disease know that they are not alone.
Local sponsors include Chesapeake Bank, Coldwell Banker Chesapeake Bay Properties, Hanley Electrical, Main Street Pharmacy, Med-Air Homecare, Revere Gas, EMD Serono, and Sara Brown Salon. Interested parties can register and raise funds for Walk MS: Kilmarnock as an individual, team, or virtual walker on IWalkForMS.org or contact Clare Lorio at 804-591-3037 or clare.lorio ( @ ) nmss dot org.
