W-League's Central SC Cobras Sign 4 New Players

  • (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2012 - The Central SC Cobras are proud to announce four major signees as they prepare for the 2012 season. Joining the W-League's newly reformed Southeast Division, home of the current league champion; the Cobras are looking to compete in the highly competitive division right away. With this in mind they are excited to bring on Jamie Stewart, Claire Wigfall-Brown, Alison Jarrow and Ali Lizotte.

    Jamie Stewart, a two time Second Team All-Southern Conference honoree at the College of Charleston looks to be a veteran leader for the Cobras. With 6 years of coaching experience for The Citadel Women's soccer team, Stewart will bring a dynamic point of view as a former D1 level player and current D1 coach. Stewart was awarded the AAAA South Carolina Player of the year, and also scored the game winning goal in the State Championship, and was part of the South Carolina Olympic Development Team.

    Also joining the team will be speedy and skillful defender, Claire Wigfall-Brown. Wigfall-Brown comes to the Cobras after an elite college career at the College of Charleston that was highlighted by being selected to the SoCon All-Conference Team three times in four years, receiving the Serena Williams' Outstanding Student-Athlete Award and being selected to the SoCon's 25th Anniversary of Women's Championship Team. Claire was also accepted to the W-League combine in 2009.

    Alison Jarrow returns to high-level soccer in Columbia, SC, after a after competing with the Stjarnan F.C. in Iceland's Women's Premier League. Before playing overseas, Jarrow was the defense leader for the South Carolina Gamecock's, who averaged 0.8 goals per game in 2002. Jarrow was also named Second Team All-SEC and Defensive Most Valuable Player for the team in her senior season.

    And the forth signee for the Cobras is Ali Lizotte. One of the founding members of the Central SC Cobras, Lizotte makes her way to the W-League after playing in nearly every position for the Marshal University Thundering Herd during her four years career. Lizotte finished her collegiate career in the Top 10 all-time career matches started for Thundering Herd, named to the Conference USA Academic Roll and Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.

    These are just fist of many great talents who will be joining the Central SC Cobras for the 2012 season. Their season opener will be Saturday, May 12 as they visit the VSI Tampa Flames. The Cobras' home opener is scheduled for Sunday, May 20 against the FC Jax Destroyers at Younts Soccer Stadium in Columbia, SC.

    The Central SC Cobras was founded in 2009, and after a year of meticulous planning the team was truly launched in July 2010 as they went from a paper concept to reality. And in 2011 it became official as the Cobras were announced into the United Soccer Leagues' prestigious W-League.
