Visionaire empowers education professionals in the region with the Power of OpenCast

The event, which will be held on 20th March 2013, will see an august gathering of teachers, professors, and researchers hailing from various leading educational institutes from across the region.

Opencast is an open source based community that works in collaboration of individuals, higher education institutions and organizations to explore, develop, define and document best practices and technologies for management of audio-visual content in academia. The community shares experiences with existing technologies and practices, thus identifying future approaches and requirements. The community seeks broad participation in this important and dynamic domain, to allow community members to share expertise and experience and collaborate in related projects.

Visionaire is associated with Opencast and has invited Ms. Michelle Zeigmann from the University of California, Berkeley, USA, who is also one of the founding members on board for the Opencast Matterhorn project. The project is promoted by several leading Universities in the world including ETH Zurich and UC Berkeley, USA.

Ms. Zeigmann will share her experiences and also make a presentation titled "Opencast Matterhorn: Open Source Lecture Capture and Beyond." The presentation will explain how this technology can provide the ability to virtually archive and broadcast your training, lecture and classroom sessions over the internet. These online training sessions can provide "timeless" views, thus allowing education professionals and trainers to create a library of rich media resources using the open source platform developed by leading universities.

Visionaire will also showcase the latest offering from Arrive Systems, the Arrive® ViewPoint™ which is based on Opencast platform and offers a fully-featured HD (High Definition) low-cost lecture recording appliance. This solution removes the need for a dedicated computer capture agent at the presenters' side, reducing connectors, space and power consumption, maintenance, spares and backups. This can in turn save money, thus simplifying installation and increasing reliability with fewer devices in the classroom.
