  • Charleston-North Charleston, SC (1888PressRelease) December 15, 2011 - The Viper has made an impact in the automobile world since 1992. This generation of Viper will also impact jobs and the city of Detroit.

Chrysler Group LLC announced that it will reopen the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit for production of the 2013 SRT Viper. There will be 150 jobs, hourly and salaried, returning to the city of Detroit. The Conner facility has been vacant since production of the Viper ended in 2010. The 2013 Viper will be introduced under the SRT, Street and Racing Technology, brand instead of the original Dodge name.

"The next generation Viper will make its return to the product lineup in late 2012 as a 2013 model," said Ralph Gilles, President and Chief Executive Officer - SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. "We're extremely excited that our ultimate American sports car will continue to live on and be produced exclusively here in the Motor City."

Giles also mentioned that the workers who were relocated from the plant after Viper production in 2010 will have first rights for the new positions.

The Connor Facility will implement World Class Manufacturing, a system that focuses on reducing waste and improvements made to improve quality. The reopening of the plant will make Chrysler the only auto manufacturer with two assembly plants in the city.
