  • (1888PressRelease) January 06, 2017 - Situated in the northern part of Phuket Island, the airport has reportedly put in place a safety zone and warning system along Mai Khao Beach at the end of its runway.

More and more people have been visiting this area to snap photographs and take videos of aircraft coming in to land. The airport said it had now placed barbed wire along this 'danger zone' to keep people out, for safety reasons. People can still visit the beach but must stay away from the restricted area.

Violators could face five to 20 years in jail, a life sentence or even the death penalty according to the Air Aviation Act 1978.

"The warning system given out by the airport is said to be in the three languages of Thai, English and Chinese, while officials or security volunteers will also provide advice and warn people about the area in question", said BSA Law spokesman Apisakdi Kongkangwanchoke.
