Flexible MOQ and foreign investment gives Vietnam lacquerware industry a boost
The lacquerware industry continues to receive investment from The British Council, the Spanish Government's MDG Achievement Fund and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. As part of this multi-player initiative, 4,800 households in North Vietnam will be trained to better plant, cultivate and harvest lacquer trees.
The report also notes:
- Overall exports increased by 10 percent during the first five months of 2015.
- Suppliers' flexible MOQ encourages buyers' orders.
"Vivid-colored abstract paintings similar to famous masterpieces are preferred by Europe markets. Monochrome items with hand-painted details on vases, table and dinnerware are in demand in Asia," said Artex Saigon Sales Manager Linda Tran. "Alternative industrial paint and coating are made of cashew nut shell oil paint, making them unique and friendly to health and the environment. Lacquer solutions also contain cashew gum."
These design trends will continue to be the focus of Vietnam suppliers over the next six months. The popular traditional motifs will include sacred animals such as the dragon. Pine, bamboo, chrysanthemums, apricot trees, the four seasons, clouds and pagodas will also be prevalent design themes.
Most suppliers depend on buyers' designs. As a result, few makers focus on creating new styles.
