- Bags and wallets account for 82 percent of total export revenue.
- Bag and wallet exports increased 36 percent compared to the previous year.
- Headwear and neckwear exports jumped by 43 percent.
- The main market is the US, accounting for 38 percent of exports.
Large suppliers can produce more than 200 million pieces monthly. Vietnam has a large pool of skilled artisans who are adept at weaving, embroidery, crocheting and other labor-intensive processes. These workers are based in more than 3,000 craft villages throughout the nation.
"Vietnam-made fashion accessories mostly feature high-grade materials and nature motifs to target the midrange and upscale markets," said Hinrich Foundation Program Director Alex Boome.
Suppliers noted their new models will feature bold prints in bright hues. Totes, shoulder bags and satchels will highlight large floral motifs. Animal skin, striped and patchwork patterns will be featured for hats and scarves.
Makers that are still building their clientele often keep prices low to keep competitive. They frequently shoulder increasing labor and material costs to encourage new orders.
