Vidyo Announces Higher Quality HD Video Conferencing at Significantly Lower Price Point
Vidyo, Inc., announced breakthrough pricing accompanied by improved video quality, for infrastructure and endpoint products based on its open standard video communications and collaboration platform.
- (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2012 - Vidyo, Inc., the first company to deliver personal telepresence, today announced breakthrough pricing accompanied by improved video quality, for both infrastructure and endpoint products based on its open standards video communications and collaboration platform. Recently announced competitive offerings cost up to 10x more than Vidyo solutions. Vidyo continues to be the engine of innovation in video communications and collaboration, extending the value of its platform for its customers. Vidyo's platform supports interoperability between legacy H.323 and SIP based endpoints and infrastructure, new generation SVC endpoints, unified communications clients, and voice only participants.
Vidyo will also be demonstrating multiple industry "firsts" at the Gartner Symposium and ITExpo 2012, being held in Orlando this week, continuing its drive toward better infrastructure, better end-user experience and additional savings in networking costs. The following innovations will be featured at Vidyo's exhibit in the CIO event in the Swan Hotel at the Gartner Symposium and ITExpo 2012, Booth #723:
The industry's first $750 Executive Desktop System - Vidyo achieves a price/performance breakthrough with a new Executive Desktop system that delivers up to 1080p30 encode and 1440p60 decode - nearly twice the resolution of traditional 1080p desktop appliances that cost 10 X more than Vidyo's solution. This solution reflects the way executives really work, giving them a choice of using high-end consumer hardware at home, the office, or while on the road. Vidyo's Executive Desktop offers a floating concurrent-use license that follows the user instead of being attached to a specific device. The Vidyo Executive Desktop delivers almost twice the resolution of traditional telepresence screens, offers multipoint capacity and includes one conferencing port. This development renders an entire product segment - executive desktop appliances - obsolete. Shipping in December, 2012.
The industry's first scalable HEVC (H.265) codec for video conferencing - Vidyo will demonstrate its next generation scalable HEVC codec design that will show the benefits of HEVC, requiring half the bit rate of H.264 SVC to achieve the same or better quality at 1080p60. This translates to lower bandwidth costs and the ability to have higher quality video conferences over narrow bandwidth networks. Vidyo's future-proof software approach avoids obsolescence of currently deployed assets as is common for customers of hardware vendors. While other industry players are planning to release first generation solutions based upon the H.264 SVC codec that Vidyo pioneered five years ago, earlier this month, Vidyo, in cooperation with Samsung, submitted this design to the ITU-T to drive open standards for scalability in the next generation HEVC standard. As a true software-based solution, Vidyo will deliver HEVC support to its customers as a software upgrade for both infrastructure and endpoints as it becomes available. Vidyo is the only company committing to deliver support for H.265 via a software upgrade - at no extra charge to customers - under a maintenance agreement.
The industry's first Web browser telepresence-quality experience, making telepresence one click away from any user - Vidyo will demonstrate the industry's first browser-based 1440 system that allows customers to easily connect to a video conference with a single click to anyone on Skype®, Facebook®, Google Talk™ and other business video applications. The Vidyo browser- based experience delivers better than telepresence-quality inside a Web browser without requiring special purpose hardware or soft client installation.
The industry's first shipping open standards-based multi-protocol conferencing platform - Vidyo's multi-protocol media server is available now and supports the following codec and signalling standards: H.264 AVC, H.264 SVC, H.263, H.323 and SIP. A virtualized version for VMWare environments will ship in Q1 2013, immediately enabling customers to realize the inherent benefits of cloud based deployments.
"Vidyo is the only company in the market today shipping 3rd generation SVC-based products that already incorporate years of field experience, customer feedback and robust intellectual property," said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo's co-founder and CEO. "Our latest innovations continue to demonstrate our technology lead and our commitment to make hardware oriented business models obsolete. Vidyo was the first company to identify and prove that a new software-based architecture was needed to deliver the scale required to support hundreds of millions of personal endpoints. We congratulate the new entrants into this market, as they will help us continue to drive the industry's adoption of standards-based scalable (SVC) protocol, either H.264 or H.265."
The Vidyo Difference
The Vidyo communication and collaboration platform is software-based, highly flexible and can be easily customized for individual enterprise and vertical market video conferencing needs. The patented VidyoRouter™ architecture employs Adaptive Video Layering™, which dynamically optimizes the video for each endpoint leveraging H.264 Scalable Video Coding (SVC)-based compression technology and Vidyo's IP. Adaptive Video Layering eliminates the MCU and offers unprecedented error resiliency, low latency rate and resolution-matching that enables natural, affordable, high-quality video to work over the Internet, LTE and 4G networks. The platform allows users to quickly leverage the latest hardware innovations and new consumer devices, making it uniquely attractive to partners. Vidyo has been active driving H.264 SVC and SIP videoconferencing interoperability in various standards bodies since 2005. Vidyo platform partners include Ricoh, Google, Hitachi, Teliris and Intel.
