Veteran Resilient Radio Personality Jimi Bruce Releases Memoir Book
The first time inside the musical radio mind of Jimi Bruce, a surviving veteran of the days when being an on-air personality was more about the fun of the DISC jockeys than the business of DESK jockeys, as it is presently, now that corporate take-overs nullified the gains terrestrial radio made in minority and local ownership from the 1970s - the early 1990s; plus his personal revelation stories.
- Nashville, TN (1888PressRelease) May 02, 2011 - Nashville, Tennessee - Jimi Bruce has released his first published book of memoirs from his on-air days under the title of "He's In A Meeting... Adventures in Getting Past Gatekeepers (My Pursuit Of Modest Fame In The Radio Game and Other Assorted Life Letters/Short Stories)" - Create Space Publishing
A radio personality for almost forty years, Jimi has, like many of his ilk, seen on-the-air jobs in terrestrial radio disappear. Mr. Bruce was once hired by the late legendary Frankie Crocker of WBLS, NYC in 1984 and describes his relationships with him and his mentor in radio, the late Sonny Taylor.
If you've ever tried to get in-touch with that one person who could hire you for that dream-job you knew in your heart that you could do, only to get stonewalled by a gatekeeper, be it human receptionist, answering machine or voice-mail, then you can relate to Jimi's theme and some of his stories, no-matter what industry you pursue. The reasons given Jimi not to talk to the decision-maker at radio stations are laugh-out-loud hysterical. His frustration, sarcasm and passion come through as he describes his journey from inside some of those meetings.
Jimi reveals his life as a partially-reluctant celebrity radio personality amongst true musical stars and legendary disc jockeys while showing the empathy he has for acquaintances in troubling social circumstances along his career quest. The pathos of a "meeting" gone violently wrong shows how paranoid and controlling some employers can be, regardless of the brand, and how they risk putting pristine reputations at risk.
In describing how politics, technology and societal direction failed him and terrestrial radio's gains in minority ownership, Bruce presents a compelling wake-up call for today's employment landscape. https://www.createspace.com/3563928
