Point To Communicate booklets assists those who can’t speak to communicate their essential needs immediately, simply and it’s affordable.
(1888PressRelease) April 16, 2009 - Arlene Disbrow, inventor of the Point To Communicate system spoke with Vermont TV.net about her booklets with Bill Heyman, owner of Vermont TV. When asked what prompted her to invent such a system, she replied, "I was responding to my father's need. He had Parkinson’s and Lyme diseases and could not speak. While he was ill, I managed a team of caregivers and professionals that worked for a special needs child for many years. I was using my system for the child and it seemed like a perfect answer to my father's situation.
After he passed away, I realized that this system could help so many people, and that's when I began this journey to patent my program. I presently have three booklets specifically designed for each of the following environments: Hospitals, Home Health, and Nursing Homes. Those who are using these booklets are very happy to be able to communicate, even if they don't speak English or cannot read." The booklet, simply put, is a low tech communication tool that is more than just a booklet. It is a lifeline for those who cannot speak due to stroke, illness, disease, cancer, surgery, or injury and for those who are hard of hearing.
As to Ms. Disbrow's success, she continues to add more hospitals, nursing homes, VA medical centers, VT State Agencies such as the VT Council on Aging; the VT Center for Independent Living, the VT Assistive Technology to her ever growing business in Vermont and is now expanding throughout New England.
