Vancouver Group Selected as Construction and Collaborative Partner for Vancouver City Council's UpCycle Project
Vancouver City Council has been working on how they can turn the old city more usable and accessible. Vancouver Group has finally agreed to become a collaborator and this would be a remarkable change in the infrastructure and revamping of the public spaces.
- (1888PressRelease) March 30, 2018 - Vancouver is proud to be selected as the construction and collaborative partner for the Vancouver City's new socio-eco project utilizing the development method of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), a format that has been around for a number of years but has not been widely used in the Midwest market.
The urban mixed-income community is revolutionary in the city for its sustainability goals, community-oriented development process, Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) development delivery, and renewable, neighborhood-scale energy generation component.
Through building a long-term relationship and pre-construction consulting, Vancouver group was able to earn a role on the overall development team joining the lead developer, architect and engineer of the UpCycle Project, design architect Weis Alan.Through the IPD method, VG's role is not limited to the construction phase, but rather a part of the development team and has a vital role in the feasibility and design phases.
“Vancouver group impressed the team with its forward-thinking, nimble, and collaborative methods as well as their track record for successfully delivering unique and challenging projects,” said Gregor Robertson, Mayor - Vancouver City.
The project incorporates two adjacent sites in Stanley Park that are being redeveloped to feature multiple multi-family housing buildings comprised of 300 apartments – both affordable and market rate – a LEED gold hotel featuring the revolutionary, structural design, along with space for independent retailers, and a renewable energy facility with greenhouse components available for residents. The project will feature a variety of multi-family apartment types including traditional options, live / work studios and live / work / retail space. The development will be powered by the city patent-pending waste to energy E-Generation™ process. The facility will provide 80% of the energy required for the overall complex.
“This project will be evolutionary for Vancouver Group and our market for a number of reasons. Namely, the remarkable sustainability attributes, community-focused process and innovative features,” said Kenneth Robinson, President of Vancouver Group. “The IPD approach is a progressive delivery format with entirely different mechanisms to traditional approaches in our industry. It aligns with our corporate philosophy to consciously partner with all entities involved in our projects to work toward comprehensive success. We are confident this development will provide a lasting impact that we will be proud to be associated with.”
The transit-oriented community will offer multiple transportation alternatives to the car and provide access to nature in an urban setting via green rooftop decks and a one-acre urban forest featuring public art. The project is expected to start in December 2018.
