  • (1888PressRelease) September 12, 2013 - Between 2010 and 2060, the number of ageing population in Taiwan is expected to increase by 30.9%. The growing numbers of elderly people have a great impact on the public spending and nation's health services. To help community and local hospitals respond to the challenges of health care delivery and use municipal budget efficiently, Taichung City government, Taiwan developed an Elder Friendly Navigation System for the ageing population to access health and medical information easily.

Not only allowing users to understand and obtain a wide variety of health care and medical services offered by Health Bureau over the Internet, the Elder-Friendly Navigation System also provides route planning tool for helping them arrive the destinations safely and on time with GPS-guided navigation.

In this project, SuperGIS Server 3.1, the enterprise server GIS software, helps the local government centrally manage and publish GIS services and build the map website for serving diverse front-end applications. On the map website, the existing map can be overlaid with Google Maps, which enables users to obtain the information of elder-friendly services offered in the neighborhood via web browsers.

Geodatabase, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 was also used to manage large spatial data and statistic for efficient data query. On this platform, the integrated data were categorized into six groups such as medical service, health care service, long-term care service, pharmaceutical affairs service, medical device, and public health center.

The Elder-Friendly Navigation System is composed of the front-end website and the back-end management platform. The front-end website enables the elder users to easily query and view the required information of health services. The back-end management platform allows administrators to manage and update the data of user accounts, authority, as well as integration functions of diverse tasks to show the relevant information correctly.

With a friendly user interface, the map website allows elderly people to receive real-time information around their own residences. In the future, several useful functions such as my favorite, footprint of elder-friendly activity, audio tour, etc. will be added on the website to continually improve user experience and therefore deliver comprehensive elderly-centered health care services to users.
