Peter Farr, under the moniker Urple Eeple, returns with his new EP entitled 'Lost in Motion', out on 15th April on Chillage Records. As a founder of the label, Peter is deeply entrenched in the electronic music scene and a pivotal fixture in the west Coast scene, performing at a number of festivals including StillDream, Wormhole and Emissions and sharing the stage with the likes of ODESZA, Plastician, Thriftworks, Joker, Brillz, Starkey and many more.
From an early age, Peter Farr, best known for his alias Urple Eeple was playing the guitar with a passion and had an early love for blues, jazz and rock music. In his formative years, Peter began frequenting underground warehouse parties and became turned onto electronic music. He became enamoured with early rave culture and its departure from the status quo. In the years to come Peter would spend countless hours playing synthesizers and learning the art of sound engineering and music production.
When Peter was in college he joined the collective "The Chillage" which met together on a weekly basis to critique each other's songs. The members of this group would eventually form the prominent west coast record label, "Chillage Records." During this time Peter would release his debut EP, "Proper Fornication" and go on to release a number of singles on successful compilations.
Residing in Oakland, California Urple Eeple's approach to producing his music is all about experimentation, applying methods of insane engineering sets him apart from the ordinary, mass produced electronic producer. Influenced by the likes of Slugabed (especially his wonkier early works), Flying Lotus, 20syl, Aphex Twin, Flume, Thriftworks, Eskmo, Amon Tobin, Lapalux, Shlohmo to name a few Urple Eeple describes his inspiration in writing the EP: "I wanted to bring out a fusion between multiple things that were inspiring me. Flume and 20syl's recent releases which have been really pushing the boundaries, as well as the synth heavy music being composed by the likes of Com Truise, Bobbytank and Datassette. Many of these influences fused with my own personal style that I put into everything I do and I believe I've made an EP that is truly groundbreaking. I hope that as many people as possible can listen to it and enjoy it." Peter has combined thick and warm retro synths with luscious chord work, and intricate rhythms that will satisfy the most avid of beat junkies.
'Lost in Motion' plants itself at the intersection of synth-funk, electro, and fuzzy 80s computer bleeps. Peter explains, "This was a very interesting EP to work on because it involved using a lot of my Moog Mother-32 as well as heavy use of my HCL Varis Tube Compressor and Buzz Audio REQ 2.2 Mastering EQ. Although these are tools for my mastering studio, I used them a good bit in mixing this song to really develop rich and warm analog soundscapes."
Stay tuned for imminent updates as Urple Eeple makes his mark with "Lost in Motion".
