  • (1888PressRelease) January 28, 2016 - The Institutional Repository of Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin has significantly improved its position in the Webometrics Ranking Web of Repositories. According to data published on January 25, the archive of the leading university in the Urals moved from the 402nd to 246th position in the ranking which includes 2297 participants.

For two indicators-the number of published files and the number of documents indexed by the "Academy Google" system-UrFU electronic archive was able to get into the top 200. "Visibility", another indicator that estimates the number of links to published materials from external sources, including social networks, has also seen an increase. In the ranking of institutional archives, UrFU holds an even higher 224th position, and 14th among the archives of BRICS countries. Meanwhile, the UrFU open archive still keeps the first position in Russia. Its closest Russian rival is the electronic archive of the Siberian Federal University which is the 602nd in the Webometrics ranking.

Elena Okhezina, head of UrFU Department of information-analytical systems and international projects, believes that serious work on comprehensive promotion of the university archive have brought significant results:

"In the last six months, we have been very actively engaged in the promotion of the archive on various platforms, including social media. University scientists are now signing up for Academy Google, Academia.edu, ResearchGate more often, posting links to their publications in UrFU archive. It allows our researchers to effectively promote themselves and the archive of the university."
