Update on EU cargo bike standards webinar
An expert-led webinar on current European cargo bike standards and the upcoming proposed EN 17860 series.
- (1888PressRelease) February 09, 2024 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is delighted to host a complimentary webinar, ‘Update on EU cargo bike standards’ on February 29, 2024.
As our towns and cities become ever more congested, businesses and individuals are increasingly using cargo-carrying bicycles to move goods in an efficient and sustainable way. However, without a single harmonized EU standard or series of standards, trade hurdles have developed, making it difficult for manufacturers and retailers to satisfy varying national requirements.
In this complimentary webinar, the issues around cargo bike standards are discussed in depth. It considers the German DIN 79010 standard, last revised in 2020, which is currently often used in place of a harmonized standards to provide an industry benchmark.
Presenter Chih-Hao Lien will also look in detail at important upcoming changes to European legislation, in the form of the draft EN 17860 series of standards. Currently, a working group made up of members of the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry (CONEBI) and Cycling Industries Europe (CIE) is moving towards the issuing of the proposed standards series. This will include specifications not previously detailed, specifically those for heavy cargo bikes and trailers, trailers with their own electric drive and brakes and single- and multi-track cargo bikes of varying weights.
The proposed legislation aims to make the European cargo bike trade easier and businesses wishing to prepare in advance will benefit from this webinar. It is suitable for all stakeholders, including designers, brand owners and component manufacturers.
