University of Wollongong to expand Dubai campus
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has announced plans to expand its campus with a 1.85ha (200,000 sqf) building.
- (1888PressRelease) March 01, 2017 - A groundbreaking ceremony attended by senior university executives and TECOM Group was recently held in the city.
Located in Dubai Knowledge Park, the upcoming development will feature a modern architectural design.
The expansion represents "a substantial investment by UOWD", WAM reported.
Remarking on the project, Prof Mohamed Salem, president of UOWD, said: "We are excited about the upcoming construction of the university's new state-of-the-art campus and are pleased to partner with TECOM Group to make it a reality.
"We endeavour to provide our students with the best facilities possible to enhance their student experience and to increase our international footprint within the UAE."
Wollongong University's booming Dubai campus, thousands of students from scores of countries are studying - in English - for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business, finance, IT, engineering and media. Operating as an accredited university for just 16 years, UOWD is billed as one of the United Arab Emirates' "oldest and most prestigious universities" - a small sign of the pace of change in the area of transnational education - and of the market value of an Australian degree.
Wollongong has more than 11,000 international students, and more than half of them study at the university's overseas locations, in the UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Fees are about the same as international students pay in Wollongong.
