  • (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2012 - Cheryl B. Schrader , whose qualifications include professional credits in Notre Dame, McDonnell-Douglas, University of Texas, Valparaiso University, Boise State, and Rice University, will take over as the new Science and Technology Chancellor for the University of Missouri on April 2012.

The announcement of Cheryl B. Schrader's selection was made jointly by President-Designate Timothy Wolfe and Interim President Stephen Owens. She will be replacing John Carney III, whose retirement had been made effective last August 2011.

Describing Schrader as one of the country's best engineering teachers, Wolfe had also mentioned that their future colleague was also one of the few female engineers who had managed to achieve such a prominent position.

Moreover, he pointed out Schrader's impressive record at Boise State while working as the school's College of Engineering dean. During her tenure, enrollments for undergraduate studies in her department had gone up by 60% while post graduate enrollments went up by 36%. Funding for grants in her department also tripled during her time.

Outside the field of education, Schrader's work had been similarly respected and lauded. Aside from being a participating member of the Board of Directors behind the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, she also enjoyed maintaining a similar position with the Discovery Center of Idaho. Over the years, she had also managed to establish numerous industry partnerships that are likely to benefit the University of Missouri once she settles down with her new position.

In the past, Schrader had also served as President of IEEE Control Systems Society. For some years now, she has been one of the volunteer directors of the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission. This very special group is responsible for providing accreditation for the most stimulating engineering programs in the country.

At present Schrader is working on her decade-long research on STEM, which she had already received more than $4.5M from would-be sponsors. The research dealt with finding the most innovative ways to teaching.

In response to the well wishes for her latest achievement, Schrader explained that she only chose to work with institutions that were "on the move", and the University of Missouri is certainly that.
