Steinway Premier Showcase Scheduled for January 26.
- Kansas City, MO-KS (1888PressRelease) January 19, 2022 - The UMKC Conservatory, the esteemed performing arts center of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, has recently purchased two new Steinway grand pianos to be used for performance and education. Among these performances will be student and faculty-led concerts, as well as performances from guest artists.
Interim Dean, Dr. Andrew Granade, worked closely with Gordon McNelly, President and Owner of Steinway Piano Gallery, in Lenexa, KS to secure these purchases. Dr. Granade also traveled to the Steinway & Sons factory in Queens, New York. Here he, along with keyboard faculty Alon Goldstein, Thomas Rosenkranz, and Karen Savage, browsed and tested the pianos they deemed to best suit the style and needs of their respected curriculum.
After much deliberation , the foursome decided on a Hamburg Steinway D, as well as a New York Steinway Model B, which was purchased with assistance from the Richard J.
Stern Foundation for the Arts - Commerce Bank Trustee; the Michael Waterford
Fund, and individual donations from their community of friends and supporters.
Following months of anticipation, the pianos have arrived at The UMKC Conservatory. “We are honored and grateful to have even a small participation in supporting the commitment to excellence in music education and the quality of the equipment used to achieve that at UMKC”, said Gordon McNelly.
On Wednesday, January 26 at 7:30pm, the Steinway Premier Showcase will be held at White Recital Hall at the UMKC Conservatory. Faculty will present a recital of solo and chamber music, featuring the new Hamburg Steinway Piano. For more information visit
