Ukraine Publishes New Requirements for Food Contact PVC Materials and Articles

(1888PressRelease) February 16, 2023 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising businesses operating in Ukraine that the country has issued legislation to regulate vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) in food contact materials and articles (FCM) containing polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Order No. 2199 of December 5, 2022, ‘On the approval of Requirements for materials and articles containing vinyl chloride that are intended to come into contact with food’, was published by the Ministry of Health on January 18, 2023. This brings Ukrainian law into closer alignment with EU rules by implementing the requirements in European Directive 78/142/EEC relating to VCM in FCM containing vinyl chloride polymers or copolymers.

The requirements are:
• Content – no more than 1.0 mg/kg
• Migration – no more than 0.01 mg/kg

Order No. 2199 entered into force on January 18, 2023, and will be effective from November 19. 2025.

Stakeholders are advised to now check their FCM again Ukraine’s latest legislative requirements to ensure continued compliance.
