  • (1888PressRelease) April 15, 2009 - LONDON – Designers get inspiration from a lot of different places and for Rashida Kapadia creator of the Black Tangerine line of leather handbags, art has always been a primary source. Her “Magical Realism” handbag design, inspired by the art of Wassily Kandinsky, has become her year-round best seller and a line expansion of this design is on the horizon.

“I really admire Kandinsky,” said Kapadia. “He is in the news a lot now because of the major retrospective of his work at the Pompidou Centre in Paris, but he has always been one of my favorite artists. He was actually one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century and created the field of abstract art. People who are Kandinsky fans usually love the energy of his paintings.”

Kapadia first introduced her “Magical Realism” design more than two years ago and its popularity has been growing ever since. Aside from the quality and the leather, customers are drawn to the individuality and artistry of the handbag, but the biggest surprise for customers is the affordability of buying this functional artwork for £79.00.

“My ‘Magical Realism’ handbag design stands out from the rest of my line and has become my signature design,” said Kapadia. “They are functional artwork featuring two zip compartments, inner zip pocket and a mobile phone pocket. I currently only offer this design in two colorways, black or red, but that is due to expand in the near future.
