  • Sacramento, CA (1888PressRelease) November 24, 2010 - The Sacramento Business Journal has selected UCP of Greater Sacramento to receive the 2010 Partners in Philanthropy donation of $5,000, made possible by sponsors AT&T, Wells Fargo and Western Health Advantage. The donation will be presented to UCP at the Partners in Philanthropy awards luncheon on Dec. 3.

UCP, which empowers people with developmental disabilities to live life without limits, received the donation because of the large number of children the group serves, particularly through its Autism Center for Excellence at Sacramento State, Saddle Pals adapted horseback riding program and respite care.

"We were incredibly moved by the generosity of the Sacramento Business Journal, AT&T, Wells Fargo and Western Health Advantage toward UCP families living with developmental disabilities," said Doug Bergman, president and CEO, UCP of Greater Sacramento. "Many of the families throughout our eight-county region have stepped up financially to help support our programs when the state made budget cuts. So this donation is a profound gift to them."

Each year, the Sacramento Business Journal produces its Partners in Philanthropy publication and holds the corresponding awards luncheon in partnership with sponsors. The Partners in Philanthropy program highlights local businesses and the nonprofits they support.

"We are proud to call the Sacramento Business Journal a partner in empowering children, adults and families with developmental disabilities to live life without limits. It is truly amazing what people with developmental disabilities can accomplish when empowered with the right tools - and those tools are possible because of generous donors like the Sacramento Business Journal."

Each month, 2,600 children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families are empowered to live life without limits at UCP of Greater Sacramento. UCP is the leading provider of comprehensive services to children, adults and families with developmental disabilities in Butte, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Shasta, Sutter and Yolo counties. Programs include Saddle Pals adapted horseback riding, UCP's Autism Center for Excellence at Sacramento State, adult day programs, independent living services, transportation and in-home respite care for families.
